Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

1. Do I need to be self-employed or CIS to use your services?

I work with self-employed individuals and CIS subcontractors who need help with their UK Self Assessment tax return.

If you are unsure whether your situation fits, you can contact me before starting the onboarding process.

2. What information do you need from me to start?

To begin, you will be asked to complete an onboarding form and provide relevant documents such as:

  • CIS statements

  • income records

  • expense details

  • P60 / P45 (if applicable)

This allows me to assess your situation properly before confirming the service.

3. When do we sign the agreement?

The Service Agreement (Engagement Letter) is sent after I review your onboarding information and confirm the scope and fee.

Work begins only after the agreement is signed.

4. Can I pay monthly?

Yes. In some cases, monthly payments are available.

Monthly payments are instalments toward the total annual fee, not a subscription.
The full annual fee remains payable once work has started.

5. What happens if I stop paying monthly instalments?

If payments stop:

  • work will be paused

  • the tax return will not be submitted

  • any work completed up to that point remains chargeable

Work resumes only once payments are brought up to date.

6. Do you deal with HMRC on my behalf?

This service covers the preparation and submission of your tax return.

HMRC enquiries, investigations, or correspondence are not included unless agreed separately in writing.

7. Can you guarantee a tax refund?

No. Any tax refund is calculated and issued by HMRC.

I explain the figures clearly before submission, but I cannot guarantee:

  • refund amounts

  • HMRC processing times

8. What if I realise I forgot something after submission?

Amendments after submission may be possible, but they are outside the original scope and may involve an additional fee.

It’s important to provide complete and accurate information during onboarding.

9. Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. All personal and financial information is handled confidentially and in line with UK data protection laws.

Details are explained in the Privacy Notice.

10. Do you offer ongoing bookkeeping?

At present, services focus on Self Assessment and CIS tax returns.

If bookkeeping or ongoing support is required, this can be discussed separately.

11. How long does the process take?

Timeframes depend on:

  • how quickly information is provided

  • the complexity of your situation

Once all documents are received and payments are up to date, I will confirm the expected timeline.

12. What if I’m not sure where to start?

That’s completely normal.

You can contact me first, and I’ll explain whether the service is suitable before sending any documents.

13. I work under CIS. Do I need a separate CIS tax return?

No. CIS subcontractors submit their tax return through the UK Self Assessment system.

CIS income and deductions are included within the Self Assessment return. As part of the process, you will be asked to provide your CIS statements and relevant expense information so everything can be reported correctly.
